Welcome to the Boys Hope Girls Hope of Baltimore Blog!
Boys Hope Girls Hope is a privately funded, non-profit multi-denominational organization that provides at-risk children with a stable home, positive parenting, high quality education, and the support needed to reach their full potential. We use a holistic approach to provide them with necessary education and life skills to be productive members of the community.
Many of our children come from home environments marked by drug abuse, poverty or neglect, while others come from caring families unable to meet the child’s needs. We work to positively impact the community through participation in community service days each month, as well as asking scholars to become involved with a non-profit of their choice. Typically, each scholar completes about 100 hours of community service annually, spending time helping such entities as the Maryland Food Bank, Johns Hopkins’ Children’s House, Food for Thought, Student Sharing Coalition and East Rosemont Neighborhood Association.
In 1977, Father Paul Sheridan, SJ, envisioned a program combining a quality education and a nurturing home environment to benefit children-in-need. His idea was to maximize the long-term results of the program by providing stability, fostering personal responsibility and optimizing each child's ability to fulfill his/her potential.
Boys Hope Girls Hope of Baltimore is a new program respectively. We began accepting our first scholars in 2002 and opened our home for 6 boys in May 2002 in the former convent of Our Lady of Pompei Catholic Church. In January of 2007, we completed the construction of a new home for boys. Since then, four of our scholars have successfully graduated from high school and are completing their second semester of college. On June 6th our 5th senior, Aaron, graduated from Loyola Blakefield High School. He will be attending Frostburg State University in the Fall!
Congratulations Aaron!!!
